Good enough newsagents, shame about the "Post Office". This branch is simply not fit for purpose. There was only one counter position available when I went to post a packet. It is right next to the door and the main point where you pay for your newspapers, magazines, snacks, greetings cards etc. People queing for one get mixed up with queues for the other. There is no privacy, there is no room to queue safely in Covid times. This branch is completely inadequate for Shetland's capital town.

Today in Connachies was the worst example of grumpy, miserable customer service I have encountered in Shetland - and a needless insistence on a cash-only payment. My shopping needs this afternoon were simple: a copy of the Shetland Times and two lottery tickets. "You need to pay for these items separately" said the man at the till, so I made a contactless payment for the the paper. "You need to pay cash for the lottery ticket." What!!!? I've been buying lottery tickets, "doon sooth", together with other items for years - and using a card to do so since the onset of the Covid pandemic. Today was the first time I have encountered these cash-only restrictions. After I questioned the need for this, he repeated, more aggressively, "You NEED to pay cash for the lottery tickets". So I completed my first cash transaction in over a year. Have Connachie's not wised up to the fact that contactless payments are a safer solution than cash in the midst of a world pandemic? The body language and tone of address from this man were those of a nightclub doorman on a rough night - not what one would expect from a shop assistant in a newsagent in Lerwick! Come on Connachies: Tell your staff to be nice to your customers - and don't insist on cash when contactless payments make more sense!

The best newsagents in town. Lovely, helpful staff. Just a GRAND place to browse magazines and shelter from the elements. More should be made of it.

Terrible place to work. Boss pays wages at 7pm at night, cuts your hours down for no reason and underpays. Also accused me of smoking in the toilet when I never did. His attitude was "if I said you did, then you did" although I never once did that. I for one have never worked in a worse place and wouldn't recommend working here to anyone. Boss also went against the contract I signed and didn't provide payslips until I had to ask for them, which was a first as anywhere else they've always been emailed or posted two or three days in advance. The people who work there are great and all friendly, but the "boss" has no idea how to treat his staff. I'll never enter this shop again.
