Rooms: We stayed in triple room2 top floor end-jan beginning-feb when the weather was wicked. Very strong winds, hailstones, rain. Not the biggest of rooms but adequate for we three. Room was lovely and warm throughout. Good bathroom, good shower, plenty of clean towels. Hairdryer included. One double bed and one single with super duvets and pillows. Plenty mirrors. Room was good quality all around. Nearby activities: We were there for the Up Helly A so we saw the child vikings at 17:00 and the adult vikings at 20:00. Both performances were exemplary. We also went on a tour from Lerwick to Sumburough and next day from Lerwick to Sullom Voe (145pp each trip) which included dinner. Those tours were fantastic. The weather was wicked. Rained a lot, strong winds a lot but we were brave. Even though we had 3 layers, scarfs, gloves, insulated coats, we were still cold but hey..it was a holiday. The museum is worth a visit and so is the fortress with its cannons. Walkability: Chip shop 5 minutes walk, in the high street. Italian restaurant 12 minutes walk high street. Chinese restaurant 10 minutes walk high street. Pub 8 minutes walk high street. Various cafes and restaurants 4 minutes high st. Sea front 5 minutes walk. Museum 11 minutes walk sea front. Fortress 10 minutes walk. Food & drinks: Breakfast was available on the ground floor front room which was warm and ornate. There was a fresh fruit mix in the fridge along with yoghurts, milk, and fruit juices. There were apples, bananas and oranges. Wholemeal bread, two toasters, two kettles, microwave. Cereals of all kinds. Muffins, Banana cake, Lemon Drizzle cake, Carrot cake. Jams of all kinds, Coffee and Tea aplenty. We enjoyed these healthy breakfasts even though there were no cooked breakfasts. Large TV with SKY and plenty of tables. Occasionally Nigel the owner would appear to clean up or add to. Noteworthy details: The owner Nigel spoke to us on a few occasions. He is friendly, helpful and humerous. There is a car park adjacent to this excellent quality building both outside and inside. This is also a great location for the town centre and the amenities.
