        Not far inland from the A9 is are the remains of an it on age broch with an interesting name - "Things Va" The name of the site derives from the Norse Thing-vollr a local assembly or law court. So not only was this place a huge iron age Broch surrounded by a large circular earthwork ditch but when the Norsemen came it was also used as a parliment!!! The Caithness broch project carried out community excvations in 2017 around the peripheral of the broch that revealed some possible evidence of buildings surrounding the broch itself.
