Rosevale Guest House (B&B)

Room was cleaned and that was about it. Couple a days before my stay I got an email stating that the breakfast room wasn't open and breakfast would be left outside the room each evening. This was not the case, It was left in my room for my whole stay of 6 nights with very limited options. Croissants had an expiration date of 7th of September whereas my Checkout date was 10th of September. Wifi had no Internet. If I had known this when booking I would not have chosen to stay here. I will be coming back to Orkney but I won't be staying here again and I would recommend other people don't either.

The two stars are for the room itself only. It was modern, comfortable, and clean. However, we did not feel at all welcome upon arrival--we had a very awkward, no-word greeting for someone who looked distraught that we rang the doorbell--and with breakfast no longer being served due to Covid (they have an immune-compromised relative living with them, which I totally understand), it would have been nice if they'd asked if we had dietary restrictions rather than assume we'd eat the cold cuts they left for us in our mini fridge. Would have also been nice if someone cared to ask if we needed anything the following day. But most notably, this is NOT, I repeat, NOT, close to the town centre. It is up a steep hill, about 25 minutes from St. Magnus Cathedral. Had we known, we would have not booked this place.

Very disappointing stay. People who run the B & B offered a poor service. 1. Were very unfriendly. 2. Not available to contact. (Did not pick up phone). 3. Did not assist elderly people with luggage up stairs. 4. Nowhere to be seen. 5. Did not check food to ensure there was milk for tea during 7 night stay. (None after 2 days). 6. Lied about distance from town. (Told for 4 minutes and was 25 minute walk up a steep hill). 7. Breakfast very poor, dry croissants, left in sun. Vegan guest left with ham, not many options. No rolls, terrible selection on offer. 8. Orange juice out of sell by date. 7. Didn't clean, check room, change towels until we complained or empty bins during 7 day stay. 8. Paid 700 pounds for double room for week. Awful value for money.
