Ancient standing stones 5 minute walk from the road. Please respect private property: park on the road not the farm, leave any gates as you found them, open or closed. The main stone, 5m tall, is visible in the distance to the north when approaching from the east. The second stone, 2m tall, is about 200 meters away to the northeast, and is the remaining part of an originally much taller stone. An eighteenth century report mentions three 'stupendous' stones standing in a row here - the third stone has now completely disappeared. Walk along driveway to gate; after gate follow vehicle tracks diagonally right and uphill; at the top of the slope, the stone wall and standing stone are visible. This 4000 year old monolith has a deep and powerful presence you can feel as you near it.

A probable single stone row measuring 215m long, including two large orthostats situated in a shallow valley with restricted views of the sea to the west. A third stone described in the 18th century no longer survives. The southern stone stands 4.9m tall and the northern one 1.78m high. The row is orientated NNE to SSW.

(Translated by Google) So...there is exactly one stone. Looks like Obelix missed it and is hard to reach. However, on Islay you quickly get used to constantly climbing over fences and gates. (Original) Also...da steht genau ein Stein. Sieht aus wie ein Fehlwurf von Obelix und ist schlecht zu erreichen. Allerdings gewhnt man sich auf Islay sehr schnell daran, stndig ber Zune und Gatter zu klettern.

Tall, thin monolith surrounded by a spectacular view. Not obvious how to get to, so read other posts with instructions.

We had a great time finding and hiking around the standing stone. Not too difficult to find, finding a good place to park was the toughest part.
