I loved John's shop, I could (and did) spend hours in there talking to him about the rugs. He clearly knows a lot about oriental rugs, from how they are made to what the symbols and the symmetry on them represent (some very interesting stories). I have finally treated myself to a wonderful rug from John's shop and if I ever need another one, I know exactly where to look.

A beautiful selection of rugs from all over the middle east. Friendly staff with a great knowledge of their products. The downstairs area is sometimes used as a venue for workshops, performances etc. Couldn't rate this place higher.

Went into the shop 2day to look 4 a rug .lost my diamond necklace which meant a lot to me. would like to thank the sales man for telephoning me with his honesty..thanks again x

John's shop is an absolute delight to visit. From the moment you step in the door, past the old-fashioned carpenter's workshop glazed door and up the stairs, you enter the world of the carpet bazaar. Transported to Stonehaven. John's knowledge and enthusiasm about all things to do with oriental carpets is enormous, and he is happy to share the knowledge, or just let you browse around the fabulous stock of carpets and rugs on show. There is no hard sell, just lots of helpful information if you want to know more. Repairs and cleaning of favourite old rugs can also be done. There is an interesting stock of unusual carpet-related items as well, such as camel saddle-bags which make great floor cushions or wall hangings, and lots of other textile goodies to linger over and covet. Definitely a "destination shop" if you are in the market for a new and beautiful oriental rug. Highly recommended.
