I have a family connection to herculas linton. My greatv great uncle was his apprentice. James came from fishing family in bodam. My male family all have linton as middle name and one has the cutty sark tattooed on his chest and he was called herculas linton cowie now sadly passed.

Seating all around the memorial area and the entrance is accessible. I never knew about Hercules Linton until now and I'm glad I do as it is very interesting! If you have time when you're passing through and see the bewitching figurehead, stop and take a closer look.

Hercules Linton was born in Inverbervie in 1836. On the 1st of Februart 1869 he won the contract to build the Cutty Sark. The Cutty Sark was launched five months late on the 22nd of November 1869 and led to the bankruptcy of his company. He died in 1900 and this is a memorial to him.
