Loch Ness Lodge advertise themselves as Five Star, Luxury and Boutique, however this wasnt the experience we had whilst staying. The room was clean and tidy, but lacked luxury, or attention to detail. The room and bed were small, bedding bog standard, at best akin to a budget chain hotel rather than a boutique B&B. Supplied tea gave a broad selection, but poorly thought out space meant hunting for a plug socket before using a single serve plastic tub of milk. (Fresh milk in an insulated flask, replaced daily wouldnt got amiss here, if small fridge is not possible). Marks on walls, roof, particularly around lights has the space feeling grubby. The bathroom was far from luxury, cracked tiles with sharp edges, towel rails and shower shelves loose in the wall, a plug which wouldnt seal the small sink, a small table with water damage to its feet, a clunky shower cubicle and cheap toiletries re-filled to the point the labels are wearing off. The lack of detail and care shown for the room leaves it feeling significantly sub-par. Service wasnt any better. Room was cleaned during the day, but towels not replaced, or even folded... A lack of hot water on the first morning which we had to raise at breakfast was met with near indifference, staff stating that rooms in the other side of the building had hot water, and we might be moved to an empty room depending on plumbers later in the day. For Five Star service Id have expected this to be the first thing raised to us in the morning, with an apology and an immediate offer of relocation to a functioning room. Later that afternoon were informed of building works going on below us due to a flood and though the drying fans were turned off at night as promised, the dehumidifier was not a low buzz heard in the room throughout the night. This lack of care in service continues through breakfast which is rushed due to a lack of staff. No time spent with guests, or interest in their stay or plans for the day. The ignorance to detail or care was again shown when the curdled, and so obviously not fresh, milk in our tea wasnt spotted or dealt with. Again, small points , but for Five Star, crucial. The truly woeful service had myself and my partner eager to leave the dining area as soon as possible. A combination of the disappointing room, frankly hostile service, indifference to guests stay and room amenities left us wondering how on earth this place ever gained such high praise. The rushed breakfast service, lack of hot water, the building works below us, and the knowledge that two rooms were free but were not instantly offered to us set the tone for what was at best a Three Star break, for Five Star prices. We wont be back.
