It sounds terrible to say this, but I never expected to find such amazing food in Hawick. The quality, taste and presentation were exceptional and hence the 5 stars (facilitys were perhaps a bit basic & a 3; but we were there for the Food, hence a 5). However, that said, this truly is a destination restaurant. The meal was one of the best meals Ive ever had ANYWHERE in the world. Hawick and the Borders are very lucky to have this team of chefs and staff (a special call out to Grace our lovely waitress). If youre in the areaGO. And even if you arent in the area; make a point of going.

Top level scran! I have high standards but this place is really top notch! Great seasonal menu and not many faults I could find. Lovely service too. The wine list isn't extensive but plenty on there and not extortionate either. The booking system is esoteric - there isn't one, so you have to try and catch them while they're there or be in the know I guess! Hope it's here next time I'm in Hawick!

We moved to the beautiful, Scottish Borders two years ago to escape the worst of Boris Johnsons post Brexit dystopia, not for the dining out opportunities. Those that there are are here in this sparsely populated undiscovered part of Scotland tend to operate very limited hours and the Night Safe, Hawick is no exception. Maybe its open Thursday to Saturday but Im not entirely sure. Its not easy to book a table. In fact, its a bit like passing a mythical challenge. You cant book on line and the phone probably wont get answered. Texts may or may not get a responses and this time we only succeeded by being very persistent. But my goodness, is it worth it. The food is beyond superb where Middle Eastern influences meet Albert Roux precision with exquisite presentation and a subtlety of flavours impossible to describe. The chef trained at the Langham in London and I can only assume is after a Michelin star - if they decide to let the judges in that is. .Bill was a very reasonable 180 for three including 3 courses and 2 bottles of decent wine. The service is perfect. If you cant get in - and I defend their right to run their restaurant how they like with food this good - you can console yourself at their new takeaway outlet in Sandbed, Fire and Salt, opening in a couple of weeks. Vegetarian options: There is a complete vegan menu available on request in advance which is also ineffably delicious and v useful when VG daught is visiting.
