The Old Auction Rooms

The place does not hire their space to black people. The moment the hear a foreign voice on the phone, they hang up. One was bold enough to answer the phone and categorically say "we do not hire to people like you". The individual on the phone did not even wait on the line to explain why they arrived at such a decision. I felt very embarrassed. Even if someone that sounds and looks like me messed up the space, does that conclude that I will do the same thing? I have been in Scotland since 2006 and this is the first time I am looking for a place to hire in Greenock and for someone to just assume and conclude that because of how I speak, I am the same person they have dealt with in the past, is down-right derogatory and insulting. I wonder what that says about the orientation of the group of individuals managing this space. Thumbs down for the Old Auction Rooms for profiling who uses their space. It is a real shame considering our aspirations for Scotland.

Such a hidden little gem! Huge tidy space, complete with tables and chairs plus a bouncy castle ! 50 all-in with the use of the kitchen, urn and the toilet facilities! David, the caretaker, allowed me to set up a whole 45 minutes before the party was due to start and we didn't feel rushed out at the end. Great venue and really great communication from the moment I enquired about booking the hall, until the party finished. Would wholly recommend.
