Aikido holds a very special place in the hearts of our family. My dad (Andrew) and brother (Jack) first started attending Aikido Greenock when Sensei Murray first established the Dojo and I began my journey in Aikido back in 2012. Our dojo follows the traditional Iwama teachings, taught by the founder Morihei Ueshiba in the rural village of Iwama, Japan. Therefore, our practice and understanding of the art of Aikdo is truly authentic and our ultimate goal is to ensure that we follow close to the roots of the traditional teachings and philosophies of the great teacher 'sensei.' Sensei Murray is an incredibly welcoming and friendly teacher, who seeks to engage and encourage everyone regardless of their ability or experience in the martial art. Our training involves a great deal of active participation and the vast majority of our training involves partner practice. Throughout each training session, it is possible to experience both applying and receiving techniques on a wide range of different people. This is highly beneficial as it allows us to experience training with people who possess different levels of strength and flexibility. We are indebted to Sensei Murray for his constant teaching, patience and for imparting his knowledge and wisdom to us. Aikido is a gift that can truly deepen our connection with the world around us and following the path of Aikido can ultimately enrich our lives as we learn to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of how we can flourish as people through opposing violence at all costs and ensuring that we blend harmoniously with each other. Aikido is much more than just a physical martial art. Within the techniques which we learn, there is a deep philosophy which encompasses and strengthens our understanding of the physical practice. Aikido is a way to develop and nourish the mind, body and soul. It is a path towards a peaceful and happy life. So if you feel that you may be curious or intrigued to experience the martial art for yourself, please come and meet us! We would be delighted to welcome you into the Dojo!

Aikido for me is hard to define as a martial art. At it's core there are a series of techniques that are indeed executed with the unadulterated form that the founder Morihei Ueshiba taught at the birth of our Art. Aikido is fast, Aikido is slow, Aikido can be graceful, Aikido is for all age groups, age or condition is no barrier. At Aikido Greenock under the guidance of our excellent Sensei Brian Murray, we are taken on a life enriching path. Try Aikido at your own pace in a friendly atmosphere at our Greenock Dojo.
