We came here on a Sunday for my husband's 40th birthday and it did not disappoint. I had booked a table that morning for lunchtime and was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was still able to add little birthday extras for him. When we arrived we were given complementary prosecco and they also provided a wee sweet treat at the end despite the fact we were too full for dessert. I was also pleased that my two year olds apple juice was put in a champagne flute so he could help us toast the occasion making for a lovely photo opportunity. The food was outstanding. After much deliberation we chose the Sunday roast and it was beautiful. The gravy was rich and there was plenty of it. The veg cooked to perfection. There was a little less of the beef than I would have liked but what I did have was fantastic (and I was probably just feeling greedy for more). Our son ate from what is quite a small children's menu. I couldn't find this online anywhere prior to our visit so my only suggestion to the restaurant would be to make this available on the website. As my son is under three we opted for the hummus and bread rather than the steak, burger, or mac and cheese. We also ordered a bowl of fries to keep him happy. The bread was beautiful, fresh and tasty as was the hummus. The fries were also good and a decent size portion for a side order. All the staff were wonderful. Attentive in the right way. We were tucked into a small nook at the back of the restaurant and had we needed more attention it may have been slightly difficult to get this but during our visit this wasn't really an issue. I would definitely recommend Porter and Rye and I have little doubt we will be coming back to try more of their wonderful food.
