Awful experience, the hospital is clearly under staffed especially at A&E. I took my 10 month old child up with suspected strep A, scarlet fever he had an extremely high temp. We waited for 9 hours before leaving without seeing a doctor. Unlike other hospitals it has no vending machines for food or water in the waiting room. It has no facilities what so ever for bottle making even though its a children's hospital and they have babies waiting for over 9 hours. I luckily got a seat the corridors were lined with parents and sick babies sitting on the floor. The full time I was there I was sitting on a seat with sick under it. (One of many) not once did anyone attend and clean the area to control infection I also spent all night next to a child who was confirmed strep A and staff deemed it appropriate and safe to have confirmed case in the waiting area surrounded by sick babies. I also witnessed a young girl being sick and coughing up blood after having a diabetic hypo because she was unable to keep any food water down, again no medical staff present and checking on patients while we waited for hours. We had to hunt for assistance and the nurse who attended brought paper towels to clean up blood, I requested once the child had been attended to that maybe someone should clean area with medical cleaner as it was blood. (this never happened). When speaking to staff we were told what do you expect its A&E you should expect to wait 9 hours to be seen. Not to mention the complete waste of medical staff by having not one but two medical staff on the entrance door to prevent partners from attending the waiting room area. Surely there is better things these staff members could be doing like taking obs of patients waiting over 4 hours incase vitals have changed in the time since they were processed.
