Found the house of our dreams as first time buyers which we can absolutely afford and have shown that with our monthly income & outgoings and the fact that we have a successful growing business and have been paying a lot in rent for over 2 years and yet we were offered half of what we needed which is completely insulting. The system is absolutely messed up! Where is the risk when you would take back 100% of the house if we didnt pay our mortgage!? In 6 months time you are telling us we can probably have over 3 times what we are being offered today and we will literally be earning the same amount of money. Absolutely absurd and completely heartbroken because of this! Will definitely be going elsewhere when we can afford to buy in 6 months. This needs to be better for first time buyers! Do better!

Im a first time buyer and was hopeful of meeting the criteria for a 90% LTV mortgage. As part of the criteria you must have a specific job and/ or specific qualifications. One of the specific professions is a practising accountant on the ICAS register. This building society has failed to recognise that there are many different strands of accountancy as well as accountancy qualifications. Not all accountants choose to study ICAS. Some choose to study ACCA, CIMA, CTA or ICAEW. Because I chose to study CTA (instead of ICAS) I have been penalised and Im ineligible for the 90% LTV mortgage. Because of discriminatory criteria like this first time buyers do struggle to get on to the property market. I strongly suggest that this building society revisits their policy. I had to give at least 1 star before this review could be posted. I wouldn't even their mortgage policies 1 star.

Can't rate the SBS highly enough. I am over 60 years old and finding a company who were willing to help you remortgage are few and far but SBS listened to our dilemma and tailored a mortgage that suits us.With them it's dealing with people not computers. My wife and I can't thank Kay in Glasgow office enough she took so much time with us to help us get the right deal she is a credit to this company. So if you're looking for a mortgage lender look no further.

Recently opened both a Regular Saver and 3yr Fixed Rate Bond The process was made so easy & straight-forward by the BS employee - even though I just came off the street and asked to open these accounts Very efficient and organised
