Thorough and meticulous, I was incredibly impressed and grateful for the service Home Inspections Scotland provided. They spent eight hours assessing the issues in my new home and explaining why they needed to be addressed. Armed with their findings I no longer feel anything I would have raised on my own is petty. The two inspectors have formidable expertise and were able to point out dozens of issues -some dangerous- that will prove costly to rectify further down the line. I had a mixed experience with this company. In terms of report this was done very well, all the details were carefully explained and they spotted so many issues that I could have never identified myself. Unfortunately, there was an excessive delay in the delivery of the report itself. We were told that the expected turnaround time was 5 working days and we based on this assumption the feedback to the builder. Nevertheless, the report arrived 12 WORKING days after the survey. We chased them many times and we were always promised that the report was arriving in 24 hours but this never happened until the last time (as said 12 WORKING days later). They talked about an IT issue and this is perfectly understandable but unfortunately timing in this area is pivotal. We were lucky that our builder was ok with some additional wait but this might not happen for everybody. As turnaround time is one of the most important things when having an home survey we would have expected at least a price reduction or a partial refund but this was not even ever mentioned. From my first meeting with Alan of Home Inspections Scotland it was clear that his in-depth knowledge far exceeded that of other building surveyors with whom I had dealt with over the years. I needed someone I could trust to give guidance and complete a new home and communal defect survey and he did exactly that to a very high standard. He is always available to offer advice and provide a calming explanation through the minefield of the updated Scottish Building Standards Technical Handbook & Build Warranty Technical Standards. We are renovating a property on the Isle of Bute, and as we are currently overseas we relied upon our builder and architect to carry out works correctly and professionally. Unfortunately, this did not happen we ended up with a number of serious issues resulting in the whole central heating system having to be replaced; brand new windows replaced due to incorrect installation and more. We did not know where to turn to try and get the issues resolved until I came across the Home Inspections website. I contacted Alan at Home Inspections so we could get a truly independent review of the situation. Despite the property being on the island, Alan visited and provided a thorough and comprehensive report with detailed photographs identifying key issues and suggesting possible solutions. Alan was also able to attend the site and oversee the remedial plumbing work to give us peace of mind that the new works were carried out correctly. We are now having to dispute payments with the original contractor and Alans reports will be invaluable in this process. Alan has been pleasant and professional to deal with throughout. No question was too trivial or too much trouble for him to deal with, the service was second to none. We have no hesitation in recommending Alan and his companies services.
