A traditional old, but spotlessly clean, fisherman's cottage right next to the sea in the stunningly beautiful village of Gardenstown. Each of the three bedrooms were comfortable, welcoming and cosy with plenty of extra wool blankets, bedding and two portable electric radiators which were very effective. I opted for the double bed upstairs so I could wake every morning looking directly out at the waves - something magical about being lulled to sleep by these sounds. The bathroom is upstairs and, even though the bath, loo and basin are old fashioned, all were fully functional and like the whole cottage, were spotlessly clean. The open plan kitchen/diner and living room also faced the ocean and shared the warmth from a wood burning stove and electric storage radiator. My evenings were spent on the couch, wrapped up in yet more wool blankets, a good book and a nice glass of red. Internet and TV reception were good and there is a huge selection of dvds, books and board games available. I didn't use the oven, choosing instead to use the microwave. The fridge, fitted under the counter, is small and the freezer even smaller; I did however discover that ASDA makes deliveries, even right down to the cottages along the seafront (the 'road' could be described as "rather alarming" for some drivers...narrow, cottages on one side and a drop on the other, but once I got the hang of it, there was no problem). After 12 days of beachcombing, painting/sketching, walking and exploring, I really wanted to stay longer. I had a wonderful relaxed holiday and left fully refreshed.
