Altquhur Byre is a little slice of heaven just outside of Drymen. We stayed here on the first night of our West Highland Way walk and it set the bar high! Carolyn was such a warm and friendly host and we immediately felt at home. The en-suite room was incredibly comfortable and spotlessly clean and there were lovely extras like delicious chocolate brownies (possibly the best we've ever had) and luxurious handmade toiletries. We were able to have fantastic homemade pizzas for our dinner that evening and were well set up for our second day on the trail with a stunning Scottish breakfast. The location is beautiful and it is directly on the West Highland Way so perfect for walkers as well as anyone visiting the area by car. We would highly recommend and hope to be back one day.

A little piece of heaven in the our skits of Dryman Scotland.... My friend and I stayed with Carolyn, Steve and Rosie on the first leg of the West Highland Trail. Their scenic, rural homestead along this trail was like a home away from home. A warm welcome at the door after the first 20 kilometers was just the start for us at this amazing haven of comfort. I would have stayed a few more days if we had not had plans to finish the trail in seven days. The room was beyond comfortable. Bright, warm and inviting. It was the smallest details including the hand made naturally scented hand soap and the tea on arrival. The large bright windows that overlooked the corral and pasture lands gave you a sense of spaciousness and relaxation. The room was very modern, bright cheerful and came with a hot shower any traveler would long for after a day of hiking. The beds were extremely restful and cozy and the homemade, pizza served in the evening with ingredients found locally was scrumptious, down to the last bite. The hostess was delightful. Making sure we were well taken care of and giving us the privacy we needed after our long journey. The breakfast served was also excellent. My friend had the Scottish breakfast and I had the porridge and it was a great start to our day. Our hiking clothes were dry because they had been placed in the dry room overnight and we're waiting for us just outside our room when we awoke in the morning. Carolyn's hospitality made the entire experience/stay one to remember. I would like to return next time to stay at Altquhur Byre for a few more days and take in Dryman and the surrounding area. Thank You Carolyn,Steve and Rosie for making our first time to Dryman such a great one...to remember.
