River Cottage

We stayed here for a couple of nights, and I want to start by saying just how beautiful this cottage is. The owner of this property has done an excellent job - the finish is superb. The cottage is warm and welcoming, with everything you need; whether its for just a night, or longer. Super clean, with plenty of cleaning materials to hand - washing up liquid, etc. Really impressed with the fact that there are two bathrooms, which was very handy! The shower was excellent, and there was a nice selection of toiletries available. The only negative (and the reason I only gave 3*) was the sofa bed. It was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept on! The sofa bed looks relatively new, and I was really looking forward to pulling it out and getting a good nights sleep. But once unfolded the springs were poking through every centimetre of the bed - it didnt matter how you positioned yourself, you were getting speared! Eventually I closed the bed and tried to sleep on the sofa, but its really tiny. Im only 51, but I couldnt get comfortable. I then put all the sofa cushions on the floor, and attempted to sleep on them, but of course every time I moved the cushions would spread and I ended up on the floor - which was pretty cold so Id wake up with a start! As you can imagine I didnt get much sleep that first night, and the following day we climbed Ben Nevis. That evening I took the bed (which was fabulous). My son and his partner had the sofa bed, and needless to say they didnt get much sleep either. If youre travelling alone, or as a couple you will absolutely love this beautiful cottage. But if theres three of you, whoever ends up on the sofa bed will suffer. Sorry to end on a negative note, and to only award 3* for such a wonderful property, but I wish Id been warned prior to staying about the sofa bed, as I probably would have booked somewhere else for myself.
