We have just returned from two fabulous weeks in Salen, Ardnamurchen. This is a stunning area and well worth the drive. The house is comfortable and very well equipped and the views from the patio are simply stunning. The house has had some recent renovation and is still a little tired in places but it kind of adds to the charm. I think the owner is still upgrading parts of it. We found it really good value for money, around 2,300 for two weeks and if you book directly through the owners website it saves money on the third party booking fees. Karen the owner is super helpful and answered numerous emails and questions before we arrived. There were 7 in our party, grandparents, parents and teenagers! There is a shop and tiny cafe on the jetty two minutes walk away, and they do lots of home baking. Also a larger store in Acharacle, two miles away and a Morrisons supermarket in Fort William, about 1 hour 15 minutes drive but they deliver if you book a slot in advance. The Salen Hotel is a two minute walk up the road and we ate there many times, never a bad meal and the Loch Sunart prawns are a must! The Loch Shiel Hotel do good takeaways as well, two miles away but get your order in early. We visited the beautiful turquoise beaches at Sanna Bay and Ardtoe Beach, beautiful - no toilets so plan ahead! We booked in advanced a boat trip with Staff Tours to the Isles of Staffa and Lunga. Staffa is home to Fingals Cave and Lunga to nesting puffins in season. Also see the different birds and seal colony on the way. Fort William is lovely and stunning scenic drive. We went up one of the mountains at the Nevis range in a gondola which was lovely and there are walks at the top and a surprisingly nice restaurant. The train from Fort William to Mallaig over the Glenfinnan Viaduct was a good day out, made famous in the Harry Potter movies. Tobermory on the Isle of Mull was so pretty and the ferry goes from Kilchoan. We had perfect weather luckily, and enjoyed the Loch so much, kayaking and swimming for the teens. Access to the Loch is straight across the road. This is an area of stunning natural beauty. We could have happily stayed another 2 weeks. The house has all sorts of games, books, hairdryer, bikes, helmets, we also hired their kayaks for a really reasonable price and these were brilliant. Highly recommend, in fact we are all a little depressed today not to be sat in the sun trap garden/patio looking at THAT view, that I would never tire of. I was a little emotional at having to leave and really hope to go back in the not too distant future. Beautiful, stunning, amazing place, two weeks of fabulous memories, thank you.
