Hope you are all seated comfy and cozy as i have a christmas tale to tell . All will be revealed but please have some refreshments at hand because this is for the long haul..
We had a booking with firlands lodge 24/12/20 to 27/12 /20 way back in september .
Things was looking a little better, travel into other shires in north east scotland was available so we decided why not treat ourselves and book christmas in a lodge with our family for a change..
As i said all looking good until aberdeenshire went into tier 3 a week before we were due to travel and our free cancelation option had run out the week before.
Traveling to morayshire level 1 at the time was now a no go so we cancelled our booking to firlands lodge through booking.com this turned out to be decision that would totally ruin our christmas.
Got in contact with booking.com as we were told booking was now non refundable as we had passed our refund date but they would contact the property on our behalf.
The property owners contacted us said they could leave the booking open as people were still travelling.. Huh did we just hear right?.. level 3 to level 1 is prohibited we ain`t chancing getting any fines.
Next option from them was 300 pounds refund as our booking was 600 pounds.. no chance we wanted a full refund out of no fault of our own.
Next was a re booking which was no use to us as the moment of christmas with family would have been lost.
Final option we would get our money back in full if firlands got a booking on our dates we picked on 24/12/20 to 27/12/20..
This may sound like they have bent over backwards to help us out but this has been a run around from the start.
ignoring umpteen booking.coms calls to resolve this, telling us they didnt have our money, enough is enough.
we would have been on our holiday we were fully packed ready to go covid travel restrictions got in our way this was no fault of our own why should we not get a full refund?
Now after christmas day we are all going to level 4, bang in the middle of our dates (so much for travel up idea they had)..
We have now opened up an online complaint with the Competition and Markets Authority who seem to have had a high success rate with dealing with situations like ours due to covid and travel restrictions
we look forward to hearing from them..
People like these need dealt with
