Top attraction in the heart of town. Entry to the old Cathedral itself or a walk around the perimeter is still well worth doing.

Lovely ruins let down by steep entrance fee, lack of interest of staff in their visitors and a rather extortionate gift shop. If you enjoy history and want to learn of Elgin and the local area and have a smaller budget or are on a small stop of Elgin, I'd recommend the museum over the Cathedral (the gift shop there has locally made and affordable sourced books, scarves, clothing, etc). The ruins and tombs are lovely to look at, but that's it, unless you are here on a more religious visit. Even then, there are many great Cathedrals across Scotland that offer much more without charging before entering.
