Harris Cottage is a lovely home near the tiny village of Portnalong on the Isle of Skye. The home has been recently updated and has very nice finishing touches. It has high quality floors, doors, windows, and appliances throughout. It has modern heating as well as a fireplace, which are important for all seasons on the Isle of Skye. It has nice water and hill views across the valley, so you don't need to go anywhere to soak-in the beauty of the isle. Sheep wander the area, including grazing up to the fence in the back yard. The yard is nicely cared for and is a lovely space to sit and enjoy your tea or coffee. There are multiple bird feeders and birds of all colors constantly use them. There is one right outside the kitchen window, which you will find yourself watching as you prepare your meals. (We didn't experience any problems, but the owner's parents live next door and can provide assistance if necessary. So that is reassuring when you are so far away from town.) Don't miss the walk to Dun Ardtreck, which is down the road and through a couple of fields. It was quite nice to have a little walk/hike to some ancient ruins right from our own front door. These ruins are dated to two phases of occupation, one around 100BC & another around 100-200AD. So these "duns" around Skye are far older than the castles around the country and are older than most anything but neolithic sites. This one is perched atop a knoll/headland on the coast. So it is a great vantage point for views and pictures. (Although the day we walked there, it was raining sideways coming towards is from the sea, so we didn't linger long. That's the temperament of the isle, you never can predict the weather, so bring lots of layers.) Overall a lovely stay and hope to come back one day!
