An expensive care home for residents to stay in, with inadequate care with staff being often massively understaffed and overworked. The food is atrocious with an abysmal amount dedicated to each resident per mealtime which means the food is tinned or frozen-"fresh" with the smallest servings on offer. The rooms are 'ok' but generally not cleaned to an appropriate standard. The care staff face daily bullying where arguments can be heard up and down the corridors. The nurses and management have a superiority complex, treating the kitchen, cleaning and care staff like dirt and don't try to hide this in front of residents, often berating and shouting at staff members like a pre-war-time-military camp, completely unacceptable and upsetting to see when family of residents appear for a visit and have to sit through a Jeremy Kyle fiasco on a Tuesday morning. One lady had a fall through the night and correct investigations were not followed up on the following morning, despite the care staffs concerns, with it all being swept under the carpets. I wouldn't let my dog stay here and I certainly would never work here and would strongly discourage anyone else doing so. I've heard enough complaints from current residents, family members and current and ex-staff members. Myself and several others have reported this particular home. I'd give it -1 stars if I could! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

A prestigious care home in the heart of a wealthy area of Edinburgh that presents itself as the top end of care for the elderly with a pricing structure that reflects this, but offers nothing to back up the presentation. While the staff are dedicated, caring and compassionate, the systems put in place for delivering the medical requirements are well overstated in the advertising, and we have experienced consistent, regular failings in basic supply of care to a resident. After 18 months in the care home, with a progressive illness with which they claim to be experienced, they cannot consistently supply either the correct fluids or appropriate food. And when this issue is raised the management attitude is complacent, bordering on contemptuous. A 2-week investigation into an issue where a resident is in great discomfort shows that the only care in this home comes from the staff on the floor, theres none at all from the management!

Lovely gardens and surroundings. A very peaceful place to drive into and then enter. The 'wards' are constantly being cleaned and maintained. They are very friendly and in no way overcrowded. They have wonderful facilities including an on site cafe and aforementioned gardens. The most redeeming feature is the staff. They built a wonderful relationship with my family member very quickly and took the time and patience to get to know him well. He will unfortunately not be with them much longer and is now recieving end of life care. The staff have been amazing to him and to the rest of the family. They have taken their time to sit and talk with us several times a day and have accommodated our every need. They continue to go above and beyond their care of duty and staff members returning from holidays have been to see him on their return and check in on him before their shift begins, or as soon as it begins. They are not afraid of human contact and will hold his hand or give us reassuring hugs. They don't treat anyone as a burden and will always great you with a smile and a hello. The only thing I can find fault with is that depending on where your loved ones room is located, visitors can enter without passing the nursing station. This means they are possibly unable to intercept non family members. This is no fault of the staff, and I have always seen a member of staff before entering the room, but it does allow for it especially at a time where we request only close family attend the home. We saw several homes in one day and are appauled at the standard of all the rest, bar one other HCone home, in comparison to Murrayfield house. Ours was an emergency situation and they accommodated this fantastically. We saw them in the late afternoon on the Monday, his room was cleaned and freshly painted (even though we didn't see anything that would indicate it needed. It) and he was in and settled by the Friday evening. They contacted social services several times to help us get his assessment as urgently as possible, 12 weeks reduced to 4, when we were dismissed by social service management. They even registered him with the local GP and had him seen the next working day after his arrival. We can not praise the staff enough, and as a customer service manager I can be extremely critical at times. We pay for our loved ones to be cared for and respected, Murrayfield staff excel in this and are worth every penny.

My Mum was treated with great respect and dignity during her stay at Murrayfield House, despite her increasing dementia. I also felt respected and well treated by the home. The wonderful staff were well trained and had time to care properly for the elderly. The rooms are so nice and well kept. It feels more like being in a 5 star hotel than a nursing home.
