I said I was unaware of any such rule and offered to swap my drink for a non alcoholic one but was advised that on this one occasion I'd be allowed the drink and I wouldnt be served any more. I didn't want to cause a scene as my son was looking forward to the chips (his grandfather used to take him to the local Spoons for chips on a Sunday before he passed away a few years ago) the pub was quite busy so we got on with eating the chips. Once my son had finished we got up and left. I didn't touch the cider and left it on the table as I felt I had been made to feel like a bad parent for ordering it in the first place.
I shall not be returning to any wetherspoons due to this experience. I do not need to be told how to parent. Wetherspoons should stick to being a pub rather than enforcing their views/agendas. I could completely understand if I was ordering a number of whiskeys or shots or appeared tipsy/drunk but to order one pint of 4% cider and to be made to feel like the worst parent ever is completely unacceptable in my opinion.
