Born in Edinburgh, James Braidwood (1800-1861) is depicted in uniform proudly holding his helmet. He initiated the first fire company created in 1824. In 1833, he left Scotland to lead the London brigade. James Braidwood died a hero in London on June 22, 1861, succumbing to the Tooley Street fire.
