I have to agree with all of the other reviews on this site - Roland is a great tutor who takes the time to create lessons that are appropriate for the individual. I have come quite late to learning the bass and have been having regular (every two weeks or so) lessons with Roland for about the last 18 months. Roland has a wealth of knowledge and expertise when it comes to music and has the ability to not only understand and appreciate your motivations, but also encourage constant improvement through the introduction of a range of songs that push you to develop new skills. He always includes an element of music theory in each of his lessons that provide some background to what is going on in the tune and allows you to understand patterns and similarities. Based on (but not limited to) my particular music taste, I reckon we've done more than 20 songs - as far ranging as Rush, The Clash, The Beachboys, James Brown, Bob Marley, The Jam, Rage Against The Machine, plus may others. So, Roland is a first class, patient and very personable tutor and I look forward to my Tuesday evening lessons when I have the opportunity to perform my latest tune, discuss some theory and be introduced to the next challenge. If you are thinking of learning the bass (or guitar), then I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Roland has been a brilliant teacher for me and helped me, develop my skills and techniques very quickly! He gave me loads of songs to learn, taught me theory, introduced me to new genres and many different artists along the way and always set me a good challenge which I really enjoyed! Roland is an amazing and really cool teacher, hes great fun to learn from and he can build you up from an absolute beginner to a great, advanced player!

I initially started taking bass lessons from Roland, whilst using another tutor for guitar tuition. It became apparent very quickly that Roland's teaching style suited me well, and I rapidly built up a repertoire of songs on the bass. I've recently switched to him for guitar tuition too, as although I really enjoyed my lessons with previous tutor, I felt my playing had stagnated and needed an alternative teaching style. Roland has impressed me from the outset with his knowledge of music theory, great choice of songs to learn, and his energy and commitment to the lessons. I make a round trip of nearly 40 miles a week to see him....he's that good! Highly recommended.

If your planning to learn the bass then Roland is your man! A really relaxed, supportive and genuine guy who will help you pick up and learn this instument. He rocks it at all levels and offers any style you fancy and his patience really help. Roland has a fantatic musical knowledge which help learning a bit of theory along the way too. Lessons a really great experience, get your bass and get down to see him...you'll leave the first lesson playing a tune or two.

Roland offers bass and guitar tuition totally tailored to the individual. Each lesson is structured to include a mix of theory and practice, and practice pieces are chosen to suit the student's musical tastes and interests. Tuition can be structured around achieving formal Grades, or more informal, to suit the needs of the student. I have studied both bass and electric/acoustic guitar with Roland for a number of years, and can't recommend him highly enough.
