Second time visiting ABCD4D Edinburgh, first with my son 6 years ago and again today. Another wonderful experience with an absolutely lovely (and very thorough) sonographer who gave me the much needed reassurance I was looking for. Would reccomend a million times over.

To anyone thinking of going please please avoid. There is a BBC investigation/ articles on private pregnancy scans and the incompetency of these places (google it). Our baby was lost due to severe brain defects, we went here twice and nothing was spotted. They were too busy printing photos and giggling as opposed to proper diagnosis. 10 days later we had an NHS scan who spotted the issue and were shocked that this wasnt picked up. The NHS is the best but if you want peace of mind go to a real hospital like bupa or spire where they are professional. I feel I need to raise my voice here so this horrible dramatic outcome doesnt happen to anyone else.

We had a 4D scan recently, accompanied by our 2 young sons so thy could see their brother. We were all made to feel very welcome by the receptionist, and our amazing sonographer, Francesca. She didn't miss a beat, despite playful distraction! What was key to us is Francesca's bedside manner. She made us feel un-rushed and was super patient with our questions.

***Update*** The doctor called to help rectify the situation. I was told I was having a girl and spent months so excited for my daughter when the ultrasound came and said it was a boy. I called this place back *in tears* asking them to redraw to confirm, their only response was "It's only 99% accurate" "gender is only 99% accurate" on repeat as if the lawyer only gave them one thing to say. Completely heartless.

DO NOT GO HERE. If you'd like a private scan, please book it at a private hospital that has a proper referral system and real doctors. This business is only interested in making money from cute pictures and gender reveals. We went at 19 weeks for a 'Reassurance Scan' (which included checking measurements like a fetal anomaly scan does). There was a long pause when checking the head, and the measurements on our card were scored out and changed (suspicious). We had our NHS fetal anomaly scan 10 days later which showed that the head circumference was off the chart and there was a sizeable tumour over our baby's brain (we could detect this ourselves just by looking at the ultrasound; there was no detectable left or right hemisphere). We subsequently lost the baby. The NHS doctors were shocked that ABC4D apparently never detected this, and we are absolutely certain that they did detect this issue but chose not to tell us, because they have no referral process and aren't properly trained. There was no Consultant Obstetrician present as advertised (apparently named Dr Ferguson on the website, although no sign of such doctor practicing in Edinburgh on LinkedIn), and I do not believe that the 'qualified Obstetric Sonographer' had an acceptable amount of diagnostic scanning experience, as they referred to the fetus as 'bubba' the whole time. There are no external quality checks or audits done on this type of establishment or those practicing within it, like a hospital would have. This establishment should be shut down and if you do any research on this you'll see that there's a nationwide issue with such establishments that has been investigated by the BBC. Please give yourself proper reassurance and go to a private hospital for a private scan, or if you're worried, insist on being scanned by the NHS (they will scan you and give you and your baby a proper medical check).
