Colinton Gardening Services - garden landscaping for Edinburgh

Dont believe the Edinburgh and Lothians statement on the website - my not-so-small job was refused because its in East Lothian. They gain a star for at least replying to my email though - many companies arent even doing that right now. Its not a buyers market right now. Shame as I like the look of their work

This previously good company can no longer be relied on. Colinton Garden Services built fencing for us in Autumn 2021. We then asked them to replace paving in our patio. We accepted their estimate in October 2021 with work to start Winter of 2021/2. Time passed with no progress until June/July 2022 when they were ready to start. For the fencing project wed paid 50% halfway with the rest on completion. For this project, however, Andy asked us to order and pay for the materials directly to the suppliers including a 400+ increase in costs due to the delayed start. He then required a 2500 upfront payment for labour. We felt uncomfortable with this and legal and consumer advice strongly warned us against going ahead. It would have meant us paying 4600 of a 6600 project in advance. We offered generous stage payments in an effort to keep things on track and meanwhile the start date came and went. Out of the blue, Andy announced he was going on Gardening Leave for at least a week or longer. And that was it. Unfortunately Id have to warn prospective customers, especially those of pensionable age like ourselves, to be wary of comparatively large sums being asked for before any work has been done.

A much needed main-door flat front bit makeover to accommodate the imminent arrival of a puppy. Andy, Jamie and Eliot have done a fantastic job. They suggested the addition of a fence so we could keep pup area separate from some lovely sea breeze daisies wed otherwise have to get rid of as they arent safe for dogs to eat. So we now have two separate areas - a puppy safe space and a space with a built-in seat to enjoy in the summerWork came in a bit under budget, which was a lovely surprise in the run-up to Christmas, and was finished to schedule and everything tidied up. Were delighted with the outcome, as are our neighbours - weve had plenty of compliments to pass on to the company. To quote one of our neighbours, its great to see proper craftsmanship.
