The Trans Pennine Express (TPE) is very poorly run train company. My wife and i had first class tickets to go from Manchester to Glasgow on October 14, 2022. The train was canceled on our trip to the station. Fortunately, I was able to book tickets on another train to complete our journey almost on time. However, the process to get a refund for this canceled train has been excruciating. When contacted, TPE said that -- despite us purchasing the tickets on their website -- they had no responsibility for the refund. They referred us to Trainline -- another company. After several weeks of communicating with Trainline, we realized that RailEurope had sold us the tickets. I did not know that because i never got direct communication from RailEurope. RailEurope declined our refund request because this was now beyond 28 days. They did say that this 28 day limit was imposed by TPE and TPE could waive this limit. However, TPE denied this. I still have no refund and am taking this up with the UK Rail Ombudsman. It has been a very painful experience. I recommend that travelers do anything they can to avoid TPE -- fly, get a bus, ride a bike or even walk.

On the way to Glasgow the trolley service was dismal. The return journey was cancelled. Rubbish customer service.

So lovely clean train, it arrived on time also. Toilets clean. Staff lovely. Plenty of space to put luggage either over head or in luggage compartment. Can I just ask why when I was travelling down to Edinburgh from Newcastle why my 8 year old Grandson was put on a table seat and me on a table seat on other side???? Now when you book up it asks adult child I put 1 adult and 1 child even ask age of child, I put window table seat also. We got table seats on different tables but no window either. Wasn't busy train either. What did I do wrong when booking. Nevertheless I will use again as it got me to A-B on time and I got good price. I will recommend to family and friends but warn them what might happen as you do have to pay for children, I wouldn't want them sitting on my knee the whole journey x
