We had a lovely time at Holyrood. Our tour guide, James, was excellent and answered all of our questions. It was neat to taste everything before it officially becomes whisky. Looking forward to seeing their first batch!

When visiting Holyrood Distillery, I opt for the whisky tasting tour. The tour was enjoyable and the tour guide was funny. Great entertainment. However, after visiting other distilleries, I found out that Holyrood doesn't produce real whiskies but rather 'strong waters'. They're not labelled as whisky, and also not labelled as Scotch whisky. Afterwards, I felt a bit trapped as a tourist.

Rating the whisky tour: Simply not good. We had a guide who was neither knowledgable nor a good story-teller which makes a bad combination. There were some interesting questions asked out of the group but the answers were just meh (questions stopped being asked...). The distellery itself is beautiful, but we did not learn anything about making whisky that you couldn't google in like 30 sec... In addition: Please note that you won't get to taste any whisky but unmatured spirit: First thing we learned is that they are not legally allowed to call this 'whisky' becauae they have - as of April 23 - not finished their first maturation process. Smart as they are, they advertise it as 'whisky tour and tasting'...

Great tour with Stuart - informative but still very accessible. Would recommend to visitors and locals!
