This bridge crosses the Union Canal near the canal's terminus at Lochrin Basin. The middle section lifts up to a height of nine feet to allow boats traffic to pass underneath. A "Red Wheel" plaque on the bridge explains it's history.

The bridge was installed around 1906 whereFountainbridgecrossed the canal replacing a previous bridge built in 1869.When the canal was shortened in 1922 to make Lochrin Basin the terminus it was moved to its present site to replace a wooden drawbridge,It fell out of use by the 1960s, but as part of theMillennium Linkproject to restore the Union Canal, it required to be restored at least to allow boats to pass under. I am trained to operate it which is great fun . Also I work for Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust and we have the Lochrin Belle canal boat that can be hired for events etc.
