The Garden Bistro

Put a booking through on Wednesday for today, got a confirmation email and everything. When we arrived today (within opening hours) it was all closed up with no indication of a reason or any expected opening time. No clue as to what was going on either from the website. Really disappointing as it seemed like a good menu. Judging from other reviews it was open at least a week ago so I've no idea what happened.

Great location and the food was OK, but very understaffed and those who were there seemed demoralised and/or disinterested. Our coffees arrived after we'd finished our meals. We noticed two tables walk out after ordering, as they were fed up of waiting.

We had booked a table but they were not ready for us. After 10 minutes the waitress came to take our order but we hadn't been given menus yet. She said she'd be back in 5 minutes. Asked for kids menu and told to look online. More than 10 minutes later a different waiter took our order. Our drinks came. 45 minutes after arriving I asked when we would get our food. I was told "when it's ready" in a very offhand manner. A minute or so later the food came and it had clearly been sitting a while waiting to be brought over. Some bits were warm and some lukewarm. The child's meal was cool. We did not stay for anything after we'd eaten our main course as we had, by then, been in this place 75 minutes. This was a dreadful experience. The shortage of staff was not the problem, as the owner appears to keep saying in his comments on other reviews. Inefficiency or inexperience was the problem.
