Great place. The owners couldnt be more polite and welcoming. Lovely and cozy, great wood burner and cooker. Slept great and woke up to a great view in the morning. We stayed here for 2 nights on our way up to John O'groats. Walked down into Helmsdale for dinner and a pint ...only took us 15 mins. Found the people in the pub quite welcoming. Had a great breakfast in the local cafe in the morning too. Well recommended

Difficult to downgrade a review as this is a wonderful place to stay and the hosts are amazing but there was a few nagging issues that pulled a star of the rating. Firstly Jackie and Paul are fabulous hosts who will and did anything for you from carrying the amazing breakfast platter to us every morning to answering any questions about the area to restocking the wood and firelighter when low. The yurt is gorgeous with the arabic colours and designs on the interior decorations adding to the atmosphere , when the fire is burning and the lamps lit it gets very cosy inside and the bed was very comfortable, absolutely no noise through the night until next doors cows woke us up as the sun came up. Its only a 15-20 min walk into Helmsdale so a perfect place to explore the area and the coast and we left the car at the yurt and wandered down the hill for a meal every night. The only drawback was the toilet as for obvious reasons its not in the yurt but a 5m walk which is not a lot but in the middle of the night especially when raining wasnt the most appealing , the pot itself is a compost pan so very basic due to the drainage issues , it does its thing but my wife especially didnt like using it , the shower worked really well and the cleaning facilities for dishes , pans etc though basic again did what was needed. The wood burner is quite temperamental and we had issues with it getting it going once it does its fine but waking up to a cold yurt and fighting to get a fire going was not the most relaxing way to start the day We loved the yurt but didnt enjoy all the facilities as we thought we had left our camping days far behind but this will be a wonderful place for anybody who doesnt mind something thats not a traditional place to stay on the A9.
