        The multi-fuel stove in the Byre set off the carbon monoxide alarm. Although the local assistant was charming, she was unable to get the stove fixed without the owner's agreement. Contact with the owner, not an Orcadian, was rude to the point of abusive. We werent able to light the fire, the electric heating wasn't effective and the cottage was cold. We would recommend Orkney for a fabulous holiday, but not to stay in the Byre.
