Everyone is friendly and plenty of friendly chat after the service over tea / coffee. Many regulars are members of the guild or SWI, some both and there are male/ childrens groups too. It's quite acceptable for children to bring digital games and headphones to occupy themselves in a corner of the church during the sermon. (This applies to kirknewton, east calder has childrens groups unless they wish to stay in the church). The churches have various events throughout the year, most are free, for families/ single parents and everyone can join in from the local communities. I find going to church helps to be part of the local community and have made many close friends from doing so. You also learn of other events that are going on in the area and local help or advice groups , should you need them.
