This may not be the mist attractive hotel from the outside but it is hiding and wonderful warm welcome with the most attentive and friendly staff. The hotel reception is a little dated but in a great way, I hope they never change it, and the receptionist was so friendly giving us all the information we needed and so helpful. Our room, 238, is large with a small storage area as you first enter, bathroom to the left and bedroom straight ahead. The storage area has a wardrobe, luggage store and pkenty of space to move around. The bathroom is not the largest but big enough I feel. Hand soap on the wall, hair and body wash on the wall of the bath/shower. Plenty of loo rolls, two glasses that are glass (a big plus for me) loo cleaner, shower caps, plenty of clean towels, shaver power, proper taps, and a small bin. My only thing here is that I couldn't get the water to run cold for a drink in the night. I to the bedroom then, a massive bed, duvet, I relaxing chair, one desk chair by the big desk (with power), big TV (with remote) tea/coffee, biscuits, power on one side of the bed, bed lights and a central light, light over the desk. It is simply decorated but I like it. Here my only thing is the bed is not that comfortable for me but that could be personal, my partner found the same. Not so bad I didn't sleep just a bit hard, tipping to the middle, and a little bouncy for me. I wanted an extra blanket and we found one in the wardrobe too - brilliant. Dinner was good, I had the plant burger my partner the fish and chips. Both had a pint, one cider and one ale. We then each had a pudding and that was a highlight! I had the sundae which was lovely and my partner the chocolate pot, it said it contained white chocolate but it didn't! That's not a problem obviously the chef made changes, it more shows how the food is cooked fresh and is open to tweaks. Breakfast was great too. Lots of choice including Free From products, glutton free bread and veggie cooked options (the room menu didn't give any hint these choices were available) I had a beautiful kipper and my partner the full Scottish, both were really good. Choice of fruit juices and tea and coffee, cafeteria coffee too! Although the website didn't make it clear the hotel does have a fitness room, I'm disappointed I didn't know ahead as I would have brought kit, probably my fault for not seeing it on the website. Town is a 5 minute drive or a 38 min walk, I've no car so it's a walk for me. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel, it's everything and more that I look for in a hotel. Not one single member of staff has not been friendly, helpful, and really looking like they enjoy their job. I'm sure the clients in Scotland are as annoying as anywhere but the staff look like they have never encountered an irritating person, a skill for which I commend them. Whoever owns this hotel, you have a gem that needs to look prettier (particularly the drive/walk up) and you have staff you need to treasure.
