As a buyer who had an offer accepted on a property marketed by Pollock and McLean, Im not at all impressed by how I have been treated. The entry date was changed three times since my initial viewing. Therefore, I decided to negotiate my original offer to accommodate an earlier than expected date and the additional costs this would incur. This was met with derision rather than consideration. I was immediately dropped in favour of the next offer down, which I can only assume had been entertained already, since the missives were prepared straight away. I was subsequently told that the other offer, though lower, was more attractive because they hadnt asked for furniture. The furniture had been offered freely by the seller (i.e. without me asking for it) at the viewing and through subsequent messages. However, the fact I had put this in my offer letter was used by the solicitor to justify why theyd decided to go elsewhere. I was not granted the opportunity to retain the property. When I attempted to, I was met with radio silence from the solicitor. I left the transaction with nothing but a hefty solicitors bill. Essentially, having an offer accepted means nothing. Pollock and McLean continued to entertain and proceed with other offers without being transparent about this, and despite accepting mine. I was emotionally and financially invested in this property, having had a mortgage approved and paying hundreds of pounds in legal fees, but as soon as I failed to comply with the sellers ever-evolving circumstances, I was treated like a pest. I am disgusted by the lack of humanity and consideration demonstrated. I have lost this house for no good reason. Perhaps it was remiss of me to try to negotiate, but I was not aware there was another buyer waiting in the wings. Yet, it was completely fine for the sellers side to lack consistency in their requests and for this to go unchallenged. Thus, I wouldnt recommend buying a property marketed by this company. Given that buying a home (especially your first home) is such an emotive process, I certainly feel Pollock and McLean could have employed a great deal more sensitivity in their approach. Perhaps they protect the best interests of their client, I dont know. However, based on my experience, I can say with confidence there is a lack of consideration and tolerance for the person at the other end of the transaction.
