This is a cute Victorian-cottage type property but is actually a wing of a larger manse-house where the proprietors live. It's incredibly secluded and so was a little tricky to find, without any prominent signage, but good old satnav and a phone call to the host finally got us there. I'm afraid the emailed "welcome pack" had already irritated us somewhat as it included a 20 point list of chores for us to complete on departure!...made us feel we were expected more as an untidy nuisance than as welcome guests. Unfortunately this somewhat set the tone for our stay. But the accommodation was a quaint mix of faded elegance, magnolia woodchip and modernised fixtures with a decidedly quirky layout. The ground floor had a modern, well equipped kitchen/diner but only one armchair and a tiny TV. Up a short flight of stairs was a loo and a large double bedroom (hated the wall of mirrors but that's just me) with the only shower in one cupboard and a wash basin in another! Up another longer flight of stairs was a bed/sitting room which we didn't use. It's clearly taken some creative remodelling to make this work. In the end we enjoyed the quirkiness of this property and got the rest and peace we had hoped for. We loved the gardens of which the host is clearly and justifiably proud. We loved the privacy afforded us even though the hosts were just next door. And I loved the stable-door to the cottage which was a childhood dream of mine come true. As I've already mentioned the list of departure-chores set an unfortunate tone with us and I would respectfully suggest this is either mentioned as a requirement in the booking info, so I can choose not to book as I don't intend hoovering your property, or is left as a list of suggestions/requests in the cottage. In summary we were comfortable and relaxed here inspite of being a bit paranoid throughout about making a mess.
