Neil, the host's husband, arrived on the last day with a belated birthday present for hubby, very thoughtful. Our cottage and the two other cottages were attached to each other. The two other cottages have one storey, but our cottage, Rowan cottage, does not. Good soundproofing. With a cottage it is to be expected that there is not much space. The kitchen is very small, but has the most important facilities. So no dishwasher. Bring a kinderomatic (those are the kids, they can serve as a dishwasher ). A washing machine. All important things to use are present in the house anyway. Nice bathroom with bath and shower. Small landing or hall containing the refrigerator with a freezer compartment and the coffee maker on top. Then on the left is the master bedroom. Nice and big with a dressing table / desk and a wicker chair. The bed is not very big, bit questionable. We had our own mattress topper with us. Seems like overkill, but it fit in the car and usually mattresses are not so comfortable for us. These mattresses were okay, a bit firm. Clean bedding, no bed bugs. To the right of the hall is the living room. Quite small, but big enough to live in if there are four of you. Television and DVD player available. Many leaflets about the area and what to do in a large folder. The other bedrooms are also a good size with single beds, a wardrobe and a desk. Beautiful views from the living room, kitchen and bedroom, but not from the other two rooms, which overlook the walls of the other houses. It is important to have a car or motorbike as the nearest shop is eight miles away. There is a nice lawn near the cottages where children can play. When we were there, there were also two other families who both had a dog with them. Our dogs also have a great time romping on that field. You can also walk straight into the forest from the field. The forest is not very big and after a few days you know the circle, but it is a private forest and you hardly meet anyone. There is an airport nearby, which ensures that planes fly very low. They are not huge planes, mainly planes to the Orkneys and Shetlands. You can experience that as disturbing, but we were not bothered by it. In short: a beautiful place with lovely hosts and a huge Tesco eight miles away in Inverness. Alle belangrijke spullen om te gebruiken zijn sowieso aanwezig in het huisje. Mooie badkamer met bad en douche. Kleine overloop of hal met daarin de koelkast met een vriesvak en daar bovenop het koffiezetapparaat. Dan links is de master bedroom. Mooi groot met een kaptafel/bureautje en nog een rieten stoel. Het bed is niet heel groot, beetje twijfelaarachtig. Wij hadden ons eigen topmatras bij ons. Lijkt een overkill, maar het paste in de auto en meestal liggen matrassen niet zo lekker voor ons. Deze matrassen waren ok, beetje stevig. Schoon beddengoed, geen bedwantsen. Rechts vanuit de hal is de huiskamer. Behoorlijk klein, maar groot genoeg om in te leven als je met zijn vieren bent. Televisie en dvd speler aanwezig. Veel folders over de omgeving en wat er te doen is in een grote map. De andere slaapkamers hebben ook een prima formaat met eenpersoonsbedden, een kast en bureautje. Prachtig uitzicht vanuit de huiskamer, de keuken en de slaapkamer, maar niet vanuit de andere twee kamers, want die kijken uit op de muren van de andere huisjes. Het is belangrijk om een auto of motor te hebben, want de dichtstbijzijnde winkel is acht mijl verderop. Er is een mooi grasveld bij de huisjes waar kinderen kunnen spelen. Toen wij er waren, waren er ook twee andere gezinnen die beiden een hond mee hadden. Onze honden hebben ook heerlijk lopen ravotten op dat veldje. Verder loop je vanaf het veldje zo het bos in. Het bos is niet heel groot en na een paar dagen ken je het rondje wel, maar het is een privbos en je komt dus zo goed als niemand tegen. In de buurt is een vliegveld, wat ervoor zorgt dat vliegtuigen erg laag overvliegen. Het zijn geen enorme vliegtuigen, voornamelijk vliegtuigen richting de Orkneys en de Shetlands. Dat kun je als storend ervaren, maar wij hadden er geen last van. Kortom: een prachtige plek met fijne hosts en een enorme Tesco op acht mijl afstand in Inverness.
