"At the spot where Charles Edward Stuart (bonnie prince Charlie) first raised his banner on August 19, 1745, when he made the adventurous and romantic attempt to recover the throne lost to the imprudence of his fathers, Alexander McDonald of Glenaladale erected this column to remember the generous zeal, the undoubted courage and the unshakeable fidelity of his ancestors and of all those who fought and died in that arduous and unfortunate undertaking".
