Imagine your perfect vision of Christmas. Snow capped mountains, giant fir trees, deer grazing on the frost/snow covered front lawn...... If Carlsberg did Christmas, it wouldn't be as good as what Achnacarry offer. Myself, my family and my dear friends have just had the most perfect 8 days here, loving every single second. This was for both families a third visit to this magnificent steading building that has been converted into quite magnificent apartments, each furnished and fitted out with everything and more that you'd need, and all to the highest of standards, you'll truly want for nothing. It's location is truly spectacular, located 12 miles out of Fort William, of which 9 miles is single track road, following the path of the Caledonian canal and River Lochy. It's planted within 70000 acres of beautiful scenery, mountains, munros, rivers, waterfalls and 2 huge lochs, Arkaig and Lochy. The local community are so very welcoming, we were invited back to an open house after an absolutely beautiful Christmas Eve service and carols at St Cians Church. As I've said, this was a third visit in the last 2 year's, and is now an essential visit at least once a year, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be to escape city ( Birmingham ) life. There's an absolute abundance of things to do. Onsite ( seasonal or by pre arranged appointment ) there is a museum detailing the Clan Cameron history, the local history ( lots of Jacobite stuff ) and the history of the Commandos whom were pretty much formed here, the commando memorial is only a short drive away. There's also an onsite outdoor activity team, whom offer everything from hunting, fishing, deer stalking, to argo cat rides and walking. Their knowledge of the area is unmatched and they are very welcoming and happy to interact . The hosts of the apartments are absolutely awesome, they will make for a magnificent stay, with nothing to much trouble for them, and they provide an excellent welcome pack upon arrival, all locally sourced goodies As it's just 25 minute drive out of Fort William, you'll never be short on supplies, here you'll find a large Morrisons, a Lidl, Aldi, Home Bargains, Marks and Spencers, McDonald's, KFC...... Yet once back at Achnacarry, you could be a million miles from anywhere, it's so peaceful and tranquil. I look forward to spending many more day's, weeks, months over the next however many year's I've left on this earth, it's my favourite place EVER.... I can't recommend this place any more highly, no matter how far you have to come to get here, you'll not be disappointed. Thank you once again to Astie and the team, we'll see you again soon Much love the Brady Bunch and Baker Crew x x x Footnote :- Myself and mine have most recently stayed in Merlin twice, and Heron once. The Bakers three times in Ptarmigan.
