Bamff Ecotourism

Property charges 15 extra if you bring a dog to their dog friendly accommodation. This extra charge is not visible on their website, so be warned. Its only 15 but that really surprised us when the property contacted us after we booked to ask for extra charges we did not expect. That caused us to rethink and unfortunately cancelled. If you are to charge extra for epts, thats fine. Just make it clear at the point of booking. Dont ask for more money after the booking is confirmed.

Maps OS Explorer 381 (Main one for Bamff) and OL53. Friday 15 July 2022 Traveling from Irvine to Bamff we stopped off at two other locations. Argaty Red Kites Lerrocks, Doune, Perthshire, FK16 6EJ. Dogs are allowed and we saw a Red Kite, Buzzard and a Yellow Hammer. Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre and Reserve, Dunkeld, PH8 0HH to see Ospreys and we were not disappointed. 3 ospreys seen on the nest from woodland. However, no dogs allowed past the visitors centre and onto the reserve. Arrived at Bamff at 4pm. Settled in and went for a walk to the Beaver pond about 8pm. Great to see a Tawny Owl, deer and two Beavers. Our daily total of wildlife was; 7 Buzzards, 3 Red Kites, 3 Osprey, 1 Tawny Owl, 2 Beaver, 3 Jay and 1 Deer. Saturday 16 July 2022 Each day we would get out and about for 5am and then do an evening walk to the Beaver pond around 8pm. This was our best day for wildlife ever. At 5am we went up to Beaver pond. On route to the pond we saw Tawny Owls, the male Osprey again, deer and two Beavers. Over the next couples of days we would drive round and visit Loch of Lintrathan (Map Ref 28 55) and Backwater Reservoir (Map Ref 25 60). Our daily total of wildlife was; 6 Buzzards, 2 Red Kites, 11 Osprey, 3 Tawny Owl (1 carrying food to a young one), 2 Beaver, 1 Kestrel, 3 Deer, lots of Sand Martins, 1 Shrew, 1 Red Squirrel and 1 White Tailed Eagle. Loch of Lintrathan A nice road around the Loch with lots of parking. We saw 4 Ospreys at once here. It was great to watch them hunt and dive in for fish. Backwater Reservoir A nice road on the East side, which takes you to the North of the reservoir. We saw 5 Ospreys at once here. Then a White Tailed Eagle arrived. We watched it from Map Ref 259 603 as it was sitting on the hill resting at Map Ref 270 605 after being harassed and bombarded by Gulls and a Buzzard. It sat on the hill for over 20 minutes but we had to leave. We also saw an osprey flying towards Backwater Reservoir after leaving. Sunday 17 July 2022 Another fantastic day. Up early again (best way to see wildlife) and up to Beaver pond. On route to the pond we saw Tawny Owls, the male Osprey again, deer and a Beaver. In the evening, we saw 2 Beavers one chewing on vegetation and swimming off with it. We went for a slow drive to Loch of Lintrathan and Backwater Reservoir again. Stunning countryside. 4 Ospreys at Lintrathan and 2 at Backwater. Our daily total of wildlife was; 6 Buzzards, 2 Red Kites, 7 Osprey, 3 Tawny Owl, 1 Sparrowhawk (carrying prey), 3 Beaver, 1 Peregrine Falcon, 3 Deer, lots of Sand Martins, 1 Red Squirrel and 5 Jays. Monday 18 July 2022 Go home Sadly, no Osprey or Beaver spotted before we left. We did see the deer again. On our route home 3 Buzzards spotted. Bamff and the local area is a wildlife paradise. We will be coming back same time next year but adding a few extra days. OUTSTANDING and thank you.
