We booked the Carrick for our Family Holiday this year paying 896 up front through AirBnb. The property was advertised as family friendly and had amenities which included a cot and a High Chair for our young children aged 4 & 1, it sounded perfect and we were all very excited!! To cut a long story short - shortly after booking I was asked if I need the Cot and High Chair, which I replied I did. They then asked for a further 10 to hire these items. I replied 2 days later (a week before we were due to check in) - paying the additional 10 and was then told they were now in Spain on holiday and it was too much of an inconvenience for them to provide these items for us, despite me paying for them twice. I spoke to their daughter and they were in a cupboard apparently, but I still wasn't getting them. What followed was a totally unreasonable email exchange... My final email to them stated that I would provide my own cot and high chair at my inconvenience basically to salvage our holiday. I asked them to be considerate of our feelings as this was our Family holiday, and that somehow the whole saga to gain an additional 10 out of us had robbed us of our holiday excitement. They replied by cancelling our Booking. No apology. This was 5 days before we were due travel, our children were devastated. They refunded the 896 and kept the additional tenner! We managed to find accommodation else where at the last minute and had a Wonderfull stress free week, The Hebrides is filled with amazing places to stay (there are lots have a look) and the people on the west coast are very very friendly..... just not these two.

The Carrick house is a lovely property with all the amenities you would expect from self catering accommodation for up to 5 people. It also provides a nice sea front view looking over to South Uist from the decking in the back garden. It is also only a 10 minute walk to the local shop or the pub. That being said, the management left a lot to be desired after we had 2 encounters with them. The first was on the our first morning in the property when I had unwittingly opened a window in the morning and not put it on the latch and before 10am the proprietor was at the door to inform me and remind me to read the 'rulebook'. I accept that I was at fault on this occasion. However, the very next morning the proprietor was at the door before 9am accusing us of leaving the same window off the latch with the weather raining outside and it could damage the windows / windowsills. When I advised him that that window had been closed since the previous day he stormed off and when we called to discuss the matter and our right to have windows open we were faced with the other owner and were told "you have rented the wrong property" and then hung up on. We did have another window open, it was on the latch and we had already checked to see if any rain had been getting in - it hadn't. My family and I were up for a week and we encountered these issues on our first and second mornings and after that we felt like we were being watched every morning to check for infringements of the house 'rulebook'. This really dampened our time up in Uist and Eriskay. We have rented plenty of properties on the islands before and never had an issue with any property or owners until now. In short this is NOT a property to rent if you expect to be treated as an adult with the understanding that you look after the place.
