I told Sasha I was looking for progression, better pay and benefits and a better working environment. He then identified a role and set up an interview as would be expected.
I had been applying to jobs out with Sashas recruitment agency and wasnt aware that the role he had put me forward for was one of the same ones I had applied for online. Nevertheless, it was agreed that I was officially applying through the agency and not independently.
Before interviewing, I was instructed to do an aptitude test.
I had an interview with the company director and technical manager, which went really well.
Weeks later, I was asked to come in and demo some of the projects I had been working on. So I went in and did a few demons, all went well.
The company director told me at my demo session that the results of my aptitude test werent good and I was strong for dishonesty and some other non-favourable trait. I don't believe it's fair or professional based on a test to inform someone you have newly met they are dishonest. As I have been told since, as a dyslexic person, it's highly possible answers to this test could be skewed.
Following this, I was then asked to another interview, this time where I would have to deliver a presentation to the director, technical manager, an hr advisor and guests.
I told Sasha that I was unsure and queried the interview fashion and the number of times I would need to demonstrate myself. I felt the hiring company was on the back foot and didnt fill me with confidence as to what I was getting myself into and if it would be a good opportunity and career move.
The role had fewer benefits, the same pay and was more or less the same title as my previous role, but I was reassured it would be a good career move and a better working environment.
When I was offered the job, I didnt get much of an opportunity to mull it over as Sasha or others at Grace May would repeatedly call and wish to discuss the role and if I had made up my mind. I found this overbearing and unlike other recruitment firms I have dealt with.
I took the job and handed in my notice to my current employer.
When I told Sasha and the hiring company my notice was three months, this was met with hostility as the hiring had work planned, and it was a major inconvenience to have to wait more than a month to have me start working.
Sasha asked me to leave a good review on his businesss Google page. I wasnt overly pleased with how things had gone, so I didnt bother doing this. He then repeatedly called me and pressured me to leave him a review. Surely reviews should be when candidates feel inclined to highlight good or bad things rather than being forced?
At the same time as all of this, my own business started to take off, and I had some clear time to think if I had made the correct decision. During my notice period, I realised that another full-time role wasnt going to work for me and my position with my business ramping up. Based on my feeling about the role, the interview process, and the hiring director's attitude towards me, I decided to turn down the role.
I received a series of calls, texts, and LinkedIn messages both from Sasha and the hiring director, many of which were really unprofessional and rude and only made clear in my mind that turning down the role was a good decision.
Since turning down the role in December 2021, I have found part-time employment at an accounting firm which has been a far better opportunity and career move, and Im delighted.
Today I bumped into Sasha, almost a year and a half on, who publicly berated me for my supposed dishonest traits, as mentioned above. He was rude, aggressive and deeply unprofessional towards me. As someone who has made the best decision at the time for them, recruiters should respect that.
I would urge anyone looking for a job to avoid Grace May, as in my experiences, they have proven to be unprofessional.
