The 'Wilderness Glamping' trip starts with a 3 hour hike into the Cairgorm national park with pack ponies doing the heavy carrying of all the kit. When the perfect spot is reached the whole team work together to set up the 'basecamp'.
However, a tepee with a stove inside it does not make 'glamping' and this is where the glamping experience ends. At times the experience was more akin to a university club trip rather than the expensive posh camping we thought we'd bought. With things seeming a bit freeform and unfocussed the trip would benefit from more structure, smoother execution and closer accuracy to the published itinerary.
And although these premium tepees can apparently withstand high winds, rain and cold temperatures they are no match for the Scottish midges. After 2 nights my daughter looked like a smallpox victim.
Basecamp aside the hill walking was excellent and Andy is a first class mountain guide with a massive knowledge on flora, fauna and all things outdoor.
The 10 mile hike to the top of Sgor Goaith was not easy but Andy kept us entertained with his stories and the magnificent views from the top were the perfect reward.
In summary the 'Wild Glamping' product is a fantastic idea with enormous potential but it is clearly a fairly new product and as such has a fair number of rough edges which need to be smoothed and polished.
However, this refining should be simple to do as all the issues were minor and so the jump from 'student camping' to 'family glamping' is a short one e.g. the food was tasty but we could have done with more of it, mix the dried milk powder up in a bottle of water rather than spoon it directly into the tea, provide the pack lunches don't get the guests to make them themselves (they're each paying over 250 per day after all)...etc
