Never recommend anybody to put there loved ones in that place

Please think very very carefully about placing a loved one in this facility. They did not keep ours safe whatsoever and they cover up what they can so they dont expose the risk to anyone outside. There are very very few staff that genuinely care about the residents and this is evident in the way they speak to family members and how they deal with the residents themselves. They struggle with very simple tasks such as logging events and keeping track of residents belongings, things seemed to go missing every week and they like the blame other residents which is very convenient! Many horrific incidents happened in here to the point that a camera was going to be installed inside the room which they agreed to at first and then blocked, what are they hiding?! Management is absolutely abysmal and do not communicate effectively with each other let alone their staff or family of residents. They are experts at deflecting and do not want to face anything or take any responsibility. We paid a ridiculous amount of money to these people you would expect a high standard of care. They didnt even manage to provide a basic standard of care and they are the reason I would never ever place another loved one into a care home. From what we seen it was scarring, the big question is what goes on behind closed doors that you do not know about!

It is with regret that I have to take issue with the previous review. My mum has only been at Mercat/Airthrey a short time but up until the pandemic she quickly became popular with staff. She was to all intensive purposes made to feel as contented, comfortable and well cared for as possible. The staff appear to be amazing, with a 'can do' instead of a 'can't do' attitude. They try very hard to take care of every aspect of everyday living for each resident with humour, empathy and respect. With the onset of the pandemic, they have been forced into uncharted waters. Working lon g hours in conditions that very few outsiders can appreciate and it is perfectly understandable for morale to take a hit on occasions. It is essential that they should be praised unreservedly for their endeavours and supported to maintain the highest of standards that they impose upon themselves. I for one truly appreciate what they are doing and hope and trust that the governments in Scotland and UK will just for once provide action instead of weasel words to provide the necessary tools, incentives and rewards that they deserve.
