Just got back from a week at Lodges on Lock Ness and was extremely happy with the log cabins. We had cabin 5 (The Ben) which was lovely. Two huge master bedrooms with on suit, and a twin room. The kitchen was big and spacious and had everything you needed to prepare meals. The living area is very comfortable and has a large screen TV and some board games to play of an evening. Good Wi-Fi which covers the whole cabin. This really was a home away from home. I can't fault the accommodation. The log cabin is 1/2 way along Loch Ness on the South side near Foyer's falls. There is a small post office shop and cafe 5 minutes walk up the hill where you can get supplies, it is a small shop not a major supermarket so it's a good idea to take some stuff with you. The nearest supermarket we found was 10 miles away (Londis in a petrol station - Fort Augustus) The area where the cabins are if very hilly (as is most of Scotland) if you have walking/ mobility issues this may limit what you can do in the area. The cabins are on a flat area on the side of the hill but access to the site is up a hill. You need a car or leg muscles like Arnold Schwarzenegger if you are cycling or hiking. There are lots of walks in the immediate area and the Loch is a 10-15 minute walk down the road. A lot of the roads in the area are very narrow with twisty blind bends so you do need to drive with care and keep your speed down and your wits about you. Most the roads don't have street lighting or pavements. The good roads have a white line on the edge to show you where the road ends, and the grass verge starts (if there is a grass verge) most are not good roads. You soon learn the Scottish for Pot-Hole. I have given a 4 star review not 5 because of the booking process which was not good. I had to phone 3 times to get confirmation of the booking and that the deposit had been taken successfully. When the final payment was due I phoned to make the payment, they said they would process the payment in the morning. I saw the payment leave my account but I had no confirmation that payment had been taken or that there was no outstanding balance. I phoned twice more and sent 3 emails asking for confirmation and for arrival details. I finally got confirmation that the balance had been paid in full 3 days before we were due to arrive (after ringing again) and the arrival detail I got about 5 hours before we actually arrived. Not a good experience. It's not hard to send an email confirmation when payment has been taken. At one point I started to wonder if I had been scammed as I was getting no replies to my Emails. In summary. Lovely cabin, great location, we had a fantastic time but the booking and communication needs a lot be be desired. Would I recommend these cabins... Yes. Hopefully Lodges on Loch Ness will read this review and improve their communications.
