A hidden gem - Just had a lovely relaxing weekend break at Lodge on the Loch. Stunning location, peaceful atmosphere, food was delicious & lovely staff - we will definitely be back! Food & drinks: Food was lovely, and we were given the option to include dinner with the room rate. Best Cullen skink Ive ever had! Breakfast was delicious too - and great service.

Overall, it just didn't feel in-keeping with the price and the star rating. If the room was half the price, my review would have been glowing, but with big league prices, you expect big league hospitality. Paid 205 for one night, room with hot tub. More details below; We stayed one night as a treat for my birthday in March 2023. It started with a locked door and the place looked closed. Managed to get in when one of the owners came out but that was after walking around the outside looking for another entrance. Inside the lady owner was really pleasant. We had to pre order breakfast and dinner shortly after check-in. The room was clean but was a bit surreal as it had a mix of tasteful decor and old furniture that wouldn't have looked out of place in 1960's Bulgaria. It simply didn't flow for the cost of the room. We went for a room that was advertised as having a private hot tub. In reality there was a hot tub on communal decking outside the room. Most of the hotel looked onto this decking so it was more exclusive hot tub use rather than private, as many windows looking down on you. Hot tub was over chlorinated to the point where there was a chemical scum on the surface and the skin felt slippery at first but quickly went dry. Views over the loch were amazing though. Next was the restaurant for our pre ordered food. We were the only ones there for the first 30 mins which felt awkward as there was no music or atmosphere. Felt like we had to whisper. Our starter came out in under 2 minutes of sitting down. The waitress kept coming out of the kitchen and looking at us. After about 5 minutes I could hear her shouting that "he is nearly finished" which made me feel I had to rush. She cleared the plates and the main was out in under 2 minutes. I had the scampie in a basket which was edible. All the food options were basic pub food style. Prices did reflect this but when you pay 205 for a "luxury hotel" room, you do expect the menu to be a bit more elegant. The waitress had very little interaction with us apart from delivering meals. Not an unpleasant experience but not a great one either. My wife said it reminded her of the TV show "phoenix nights" which I would agree with.

Both my partner and I loved this place. Had a relaxing weekend. Room was fabulous with a great view of the loch. Amenities were amazing and Jean and Derek couldnt have done enough for us. The spa treatment and massage bed really worked wonders on my stress levels and muscle pain. Breakfast was really good and eating while enjoying the view set us up for the day. I know if I get the chance to go back to the area this is where I will be staying.
