Mr McIntosh undertook work for us in July 2021. Day one Mr McIntosh arrived as agreed at 8.00am, starting work on painting the outside windows and back door. At 12.30pm Mr McIntosh said he was finished for the day as he had to take a friend to a hospital appointment Day Two Mr McIntosh arrived as agreed at 8.00am. Continuing work started day before. We went out for something for lunch at 12, when we arrived back at our property at 12.30pm we discovered Mr McIntosh had unfortunately fallen from his ladder and injured himself. We offered to take him to hospital as there was obvious damage to his elbow but he declined. Once Mr McIntosh had left the premises we discovered our front door, which had only been fitted the previous month, was paint damaged. It was obvious Mr McIntosh had attempted to clean this up. On further inspection of the front of the house, the following damage was noted. 1. Paint damage to front and side of front door, paint was ingrained in to side of door from Mr McIntoshs attempt to clean it. Spots of paint on front of door 2. Considerable paint damage to front door under ledge at foot of door. Paint damage to seal on inside of front door. 3. Paint damage to skirting boards, real wood flooring and front doormat 4. Scratch on letter box 5. The front door was now squint and askew from some kind of impact. Mr McIntosh was unable to work for 6 weeks due to his unfortunate injuries from his fall. When he returned to carry out the remaining work we approached the subject of the damage to the door, he admitted hed spilled a small amount of paint but denied any impact damage to the door. We agreed until the situation was resolved he would not carry out any further work. He said hed contact his insurance for us, this took several weeks of chasing him for him to open a claim and then only after we paid him 400 for the two half days of work hed carried out, more or less holding us to ransom before opening an insurance claim. After several months of having to deal with his insurance company we received compensation towards the damaged door. We also again had to chase Mr McIntosh to pay his excess for his insurance claim which was to be paid directly to us and not his insurance company, this took a further eight weeks from the settlement agreement. A very unpleasant and stressful situation, we understand accidents happen and we were more than understanding to Mr McIntoshs situation but have been left with a damaged front door. Never once has Mr McIntosh apologised for the damage. He may be a good painter/decorator, going by other reviews, but how he deals with any problems or issues that arise leaves a lot to be desired and says a lot about the type of person he is.
