I have just finished my orthodontic treatment with the lovely Laura Horlock. After starting my brace journey from a previous orthodontic practice that was dreadful. I was seen every 4/6 weeks instead of months later! What can I say but just WOW My teeth are PERFECT! Soooo chuft with them. Laura and Jacqui both exceed my expectations. My Bite was so challenging to fix but they did it!!!! The service I have received from start to finish was outstanding. From the helpful reception girls to the well knowledged dental nurses. Even the practice manager Lorna and the lovely implant team was so nice to me when ever I had seen them while getting my braces adjusted and removed. Guys all of you have made me so happy! I highly recommend Thistle Dental. Thank everyone of you and keep being the best ortho/implant practice EVER!! xx

My daughter was referred to this practice due to having overcrowded teeth and an over bite, naturally we opted for NHS treatment as I myself recieved the same treatment when it was originally orthoworld. No problem I thought.Teeth were removed by our own dentist and a plan was put in place for her treatment (2019). A top brace was fitted to our daughters teeth (as we were told this would need to be on longer than the bottom brace) with mention of a bottom brace to be fitted at a later date. After a few months of return appointments a bottom brace was never fitted. Enter covid. Understandably the pandemic turned the world upside down but after a while going to the dentist returned. We had no communication for months regarding our daughters treatment although we did have appointments to have the top brace tightened. No further information regarding the bottom brace was discussed as we were told due to the pandemic this procedure could not be carried out due to Covid. My wife and I required dental treatment throughout this period and managed to have work done with no issue so we were slightly confused and couldn't understand why our daughters treatment had momentarily stopped. December 2020 we were told that our daughters orthodontist was leaving and that a replacement was already in place to proceed with NHS treatment. Its worth noting my wife and I had discussed private treatment as we started to have our doubts...... February 2021, another brace adjustment and reassurance that in the next few weeks the new dentist would take over her treatment. May 2021. We recieved a three page letter stating that the dentist that was due to join the practice, wasn't. Due to an NHS list number problem and a list of excuses we were advised that delays in her treatment was to be expected, which is understandable. After being told of prioritisation that was being put in place it became apparent that NHS treatment was playing second fiddle to private paying customers? They advised that they couldn't take our daughter on as NHS anymore without delays but stated they were more than happy to accept private patients and continue immediately with treatment. Understandably we were concerned and also felt our hand was being forced into going private. We queried the costs involved and asked for the remainder of her treatment plan if we were to go private. We also asked about payment plan options. My wife recieved a short email stating that we would have to pay for private consultation even though she was an existing patient. We recieved a generic price plan that was not unique to our daughters treatment and ridiculously expensive considering how much treatment she had left. My wife explained where we were at with her treatment and again queried these costs and enquired about payment options. We fully intended to go private. We then recieved a rather strange short email from the receptionist apologising that a colleague did not realise she was already half way through treatment before giving us prices. After this incompetence we decided to gain a second opinion. Long story short. Our daughter is now registered privately elsewhere with an 18month plan in place. Interestingly though, upon her initial consultation we were advised that she should have had both braces fitted at the same time as there is no apparent reason why this couldn't have been done? We were also told her overbite was not extreme enough to have delayed the bottom brace being fitted. Due to this we now face 18months on top of the time wasted and our daughter could have been in the retainer stage of her treatment. We were also told Thistle only has one fully qualified orthodontist and the dentist treating our daughter was in fact just a dentist. In the email we recieved it was stated that the person treating our daughter was an orthodontist? Quite concerning? Our daughter is now registered privately elsewhere under an 18month plan due to time wasted at Thistle. She is a lot happier. Be cautious if you intend to register with Thistle under the NHS.
